I hate being so behind

This is my first year in NaNoWriMo, and I'm really hoping I can pull it off. I'm Yinepuhotep on NaNoWriMo, too. I'm just under 6000 words right now, and it bugs me all kinds of ways. I guess part of it is that it seems as if all the family drama that didn't happen last month has come down on my head since I started trying to do some serious writing, so I feel as if I can't do the writing I want to with all the drama going on around me. Has anyone else had that problem? If so, how have you dealt with it?

I'm working on an alternate-world Sci-Fantasy in which the MCs are a werewolf and her alien boyfriend who are caught between a fascist US government and an underground group trying to rescue non-mundane Americans while monkeywrenching the government whenever it doesn't interfere with their rescue operations. I already know that what I end up with will only be a skeleton of the finished story (way WAY too much Brenda Starr dialogue, for instance), but I'm hoping that the skeleton will be strong enough to support the padding it'll need.
